A Christmas Story
Since it is technically still Christmas here is a yuletide anecdote to warm your hearts.
Yesterday, as I struggled manfully with the washing up, my gorgeous but somewhat eccentric Japanese wife remained completely absorbed watching the vibrato exercise section of Simon Fischer’s companion DVD to his book warming up. This puzzled me a little so I asked her why she, who doesn’t play any instrument and claims to be totally unmusical in every sense, would be so enamored of such a technical work. She sat for a minute and then said, ‘He is a kind teacher. That is important when teaching. You can see he is deep but he makes a beautiful atmosphere and everything is very easy to understand. By the way, do you use a hand or arm vibrato?’
Not bad for someone who didn’t know the word five minutes before....
I battled on manfully with the washing up.
